Travis and I are both lucky to have President’s Day off this year. I spent Saturday and Sunday hanging out with friends and family, watching the Olympics, reading (The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling), and SLEEPING. We have a paper to write for our adolescent psychological class, and I decided I would wake up early Monday morning to write it. Now, I’m not a morning person, so the best way to motivate me to wake up on a day off is breakfast. So I put oatmeal in the crockpot for some morning motivation. Here’s what I did:
Chop 2 apples into bite size pieces. I used gala apples.
Add the apples to the crockpot. Sprinkle 1/4 cup brown sugar over apples.
Next, sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon.
A pinch of salt.
Next comes the oats. 2 cups of them.
Then, 2 cups of milk. I used skim.
Next, the recipe calls for 2 cups of water. I only added 1 1/2 cups though because I prefer a thicker, less watery oatmeal. Do NOT stir the oatmeal.
Set the crockpot to low for 8-9 hours.
Set your alarm for 8 hours later and go to bed! Uno’s favorite time of day.
Once you wake up and the oatmeal is fully cooked, then stir it.
Finally, serve it up with any oatmeal toppings you like and enjoy! I topped mine with pecans and craisians. I also had some chocolate chips available which would be tasty.
I might add a little extra brown sugar to the top of mine next time. It needed a little more sweetness. Overall, a tasty and healthy way to start your morning. Now onto a morning of parenting styles and peer groups!
This afternoon, Travis and I are going to go ice skating at the local rink (we are Olympic inspired, we might even sign up for a curling class!) I am also subbing on a volleyball tonight in St. joe which means dinner at Cheddar’s! I love when Travis comes to my games with me 🙂
